OUR STORY
OUR STORY
Our story begins with the official launch of the 24-7 Prayer movement in a dodgy Guildford nightclub called ‘Bojangles’ at the start of the year 2000. The club has now been demolished, but 24-7 Prayer is still going strong, having spread out from Guildford into more than half the nations on earth.
As 24-7 Prayer rooms multiplied around the world, everyone from Rolling Stone magazine to the Archbishop of Canterbury suddenly got interested. Channel 4 made a TV documentary about our mission in Ibiza and our first "boiler room" community in Reading received a government award.

ROOM AT THE INN
Finding ourselves unexpectedly at the heart of a global movement, we began meeting in homes and halls around Guildford to pray. In 2006 Pete and Sammy Greig moved to the area to join this fledgling community, and agreed, two years later, to start leading it as our Senior Pastors.
Under their leadership we began gathering on Sundays, adopted the name ‘Emmaus Rd’ and moved into the Stoke Pub (where Achmed, the landlord, turned out to be from...Bethlehem!). Seasons of 24-7 Prayer became the heartbeat of our growing community, and we began to gather in smaller 'collectives' throughout the area.
HOUSE OF PRAYER
Since 2008 we haven’t stopped praying or growing. As a result, we now have congregations throughout the region: in Guildford, Woking and Aldershot, and a close relationship with Waverley Abbey just down the road. We host the 24-7 Prayer International Office, and love having leaders from many key ministries in our church family including Elam, CSW, Matrix Trust, Lectio365, Waverley Abbey Trust, Wildfires, The Order of the Mustard Seed, and The Lighthouse.
As a founding member of the worldwide family of 24-7 churches we continue to be passionate about its three great priorities: Prayer, Mission and Justice. Our models for Prayer involve daily corporate prayer meetings and personal prayer through Lectio 365, plus partnership with the praying community at Waverley Abbey and regular 24-7 prayer rooms. Our models for Mission involve Alpha, Safar, youthwork, and church planting. And our strategy for Justice is driven through our Lighthouse centers, caring for the poor in countless ways, all overseen by the Emmaus Transformation Trust.
